We are seeking an exceptional culinary leader to join our opening team at Bar Siesta, a small Spanish-Californian tapas and wine bar in Silver Lake.This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a tightly knit team of industry veterans who share a passion for excellent hospitality, exceptional food, and natural wine.The ideal candidate will possess a high degree of organization, comfort running a fast-paced service, and an optimistic attitude.The Sous Chef will work closely with our chef to lead the BOH team in all facets, including organization, education, and execution of service.The role includes administrative tasks such as ordering, prep lists, and inventory management, as well as running one of two daily services.The successful candidate will have a drive for excellence, regular problem-solving skills, a high level of productivity, extreme attention to detail, and a focus on cleanliness.We source exceptional products from local producers and Spain, and the ideal candidate will have an obsession with quality, a deep respect for ingredients, and an interest in European cooking and philosophy.2+ years of prior experience as a sous chef is preferred.Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the chef to ensure consistent and efficient food preparation and execution.
  • Lead the team through multiple services per week as the BOH manager on duty.
  • Demonstrate excellent line work ethic, knife skills, cleanliness, and a professional attitude.
  • Exhibit stellar organizational habits pertaining to all areas of the kitchen and storage.
  • Assist in ordering, receiving, storage, sanitation, and consistent execution of food at the highest possible level of quality.
  • Assist in daily and monthly inventory of all food products and work to minimize waste.
  • Implement and communicate standards of operations and service.
  • Hold the team to the highest standards pertaining to sanitary practices for food handling, general cleanliness of kitchen areas, and compliance with operational standards.
  • Take initiative to foster a respectful and nurturing workplace environment.
